A bold community effort has led to the arrest of three suspected motorcycle thieves in Ibanda, shedding light on a potentially widespread theft network.
In a night operation that unfolded like a real-life thriller, three men, Edwin Najuna, Ronald Mutebi, and Saidi Tumwiine, were apprehended by vigilant residents and the Ibanda District Police. The operation recovered five motorcycles and an astonishing 15 number plates, suggesting a well-organized criminal enterprise.
But here's where it gets controversial...
One of the suspects, Najuna, has been arrested on multiple occasions, yet he has always walked free. Local leaders, like Lauben Tumwijukye, the LC I chairperson, are concerned about this pattern of repeat offences.
"This is the third time Najuna has been arrested, but he has always been released," Tumwijukye said.
The community, however, remains hopeful that this time, justice will prevail.
Ibanda District Police Commander SP Paul Katwesigye praised the community's role in the arrests, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation.
"The suspects were intercepted by residents, and the community's quick action led to their capture. We are grateful for their support," he said.
The recovered motorcycles and number plates are now undergoing thorough investigations. The police are urging the public to come forward and help identify the rightful owners of the stolen vehicles.
As the investigation unfolds, one question remains: Will this time be different for Najuna, or will he walk free once again?
