In a thrilling boys basketball game, Brandon Bennett's clutch layup with under a minute left propelled No. 17 Montour to a 53-52 victory over McKeesport in the WPIAL Class 5A preliminary round. The Spartans (9-14) will face the top-ranked Chartiers Valley in the first round on Tuesday.

Zane Schachter contributed 15 points, and Robert Schmitt added 10 for Montour. The Tigers (10-12), led by Lamont Perkins' 14 points, Brian Jones' 12, and Darryl McCullough's 11, narrowly missed the win.

Allderdice dominated Brashear with a 80-46 victory, securing their spot in the City League championship game. Keiylan Walden's 21 points and Keith Taylor's 14 were key. Brashear (8-14) was led by Mason Dick's 15 points. The Dragons will face Obama Academy in the finals at Brashear on Sunday at 1 p.m., while the Eagles (13-9) beat Carrick (13-10) 78-47 in the other semifinal.

Bentworth (15-6) secured a 61-44 win over West Greene (7-14) in the Class 2A preliminary round, thanks to Ben Hays' 31 points. The Bearcats will meet No. 3 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in the first round on Monday. West Greene's Matt Wassil scored 15, Landen Hill added 12, and Will Shipman contributed 10.

No. 16 Brentwood (13-10) won the Class 2A preliminary round with a 58-41 score, thanks to Deng Mu's 23 points and Xh'avier Nunez's 18. They will face No. 1 Jeannette in the first round on Monday. Beth-Center (12-11) was led by Brayden Ozohonish's 14 points and Parker Amos' 10.

Cheswick Christian Academy (17-6) secured a SWCAC win over Pittsburgh Christian Academy (10-0 in the Greater Pittsburgh division) with a 62-36 score. Brady Rochkind led the Chargers with 26 points and 20 rebounds. Joseph Rosio added 24 points, and Sam Kostick had 12.

Ringgold (14-9) secured a 64-39 win over Laurel Highlands (13-9) in the Class 5A preliminary round. Takeo Tolliver and Dennis Hawkins each scored 12 points. Demetri Lowe added 11 for the Rams, who will face No. 2 Lincoln Park in the first round on Tuesday. Luke Martin led Laurel Highlands with nine points.

Westmoreland Christian Academy (10-0 in the SWCAC) defeated Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf 56-20. Blake Tomson scored 14, Hunter Morrison added 12, and Titus Kail had 11. TayVon Reed led the Deaf School with 18 points.

Girls basketball

Allderdice (17-6) dominated Westinghouse (12-8) 68-10 in the City League semifinals. Bailey White's 26 points and Rhyan Sledge's 15 were key. The Dragons will face Obama Academy in the championship game at Brashear on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Eagles (13-7) beat Carrick (13-8) 49-17 in the other semifinal.

Pittsburgh Christian Academy (13-7) secured a SWCAC win over Cheswick Christian Academy (10-0 in the Greater Pittsburgh division) with a 52-34 score. Gigi Weight scored 20, and Gabby Serrapare added 19. Grace Kostick scored 16, and Phebe Kralik had 10 for Cheswick Christian.

Hockey

Avonworth (14-3-1) secured a 13-1 win over West Allegheny (9-10) in Class A. Jimmy Shields had a six-point night with two goals and four assists, Austin Dzadovsky had three goals and two assists, Luke Ermlich added two goals and two assists, and Cooper Powell collected a goal and three assists.

Blackhawk (14-5) defeated Beaver (7-11) 5-3 in Class A. Dominic Giocondi had a goal and two assists, Grant Shroads added a goal and an assist, and Tyler Syka, Maddox Modro, and Bryce Leiper also scored. Matt Hofer made 27 saves. Roman Guido had two goals and an assist, and Evan Schmidt also scored for Beaver.

Cathedral Prep (4-11-2) secured a 10-0 win over Baldwin (4-14-1) in Class 2A. Chris Bruschi scored twice, Logan Morris and Brady Sack each had a goal and two assists, and Matei Moga made 21 saves.

Central Valley (6-10-2) secured a 6-2 win over McDowell (5-12) in Division 2. Michael Crea had a goal and an assist, and Maddox Pagley, Ben Meyer, Connor Svaranowic, Treyton Palocsik, and Marshall Hosack also scored. Dylan Payne scored twice for McDowell.

Connellsville (15-4) secured a 4-2 win over Knoch (13-5) in Division 2. Santo Crucio had a goal and an assist, and Logan Jenkins, Liam King, and Connor Basinger also scored. Tyson Voloch and Brayden Knauss scored for Knoch.

Pine-Richland (9-5-3) secured a 5-2 win over Mt. Lebanon (3-12-3) in Class 3A. Colten Andrighetti had a goal and three assists, Michael Desjardins and Noah Taggery each had a goal and an assist, and Cullen Campbell and Mason Rudolph also scored. Ben Kurta had a goal and an assist, and William White also scored for Mt. Lebanon.

Plum (13-6) secured a 9-3 win over Wheeling Central Catholic (1-17) in Class A. AJ Leah scored a hat trick and added an assist, Liam McMahon had a goal and an assist, and Colby Bartos dished out three assists. Maddox Ochap scored twice for Wheeling Central Catholic.

Ringgold (13-4-1) secured a 14-2 win over Wilmington (7-10) in Division 2. Landon Vaccaro had a seven-point night with two goals and five assists, Bruce Santina and Nicholas Mahalko each collected three goals and two assists, and Brady Lippert had a goal and four assists.

Seneca Valley (17-0-1) secured a 3-0 win over Thomas Jefferson (10-7-1) in Class 3A. John Sroka III had two goals and an assist, Luke Meyers also scored, and Chris Nichols made 22 saves.
