Get ready for a thrilling journey into the world of extreme metal! GORGUTS, the legendary Canadian death metal band, is about to embark on a new chapter in their musical legacy.
In a recent interview, guitarist and vocalist Luc Lemay revealed some exciting news. After a long-awaited hiatus, GORGUTS is set to enter the studio around March 2026 to record their highly anticipated new album. But here's where it gets controversial... Lemay shared some intriguing insights into the creative process behind this upcoming release.
"I wanted to get back into writing mode as soon as we returned from our North American tour with CANNIBAL CORPSE. I was in a creative headspace and felt inspired. I asked myself why I took breaks, but sometimes my mind just needed a break from it all. I'm the kind of person who likes to juggle a million things at once!"
Lemay continued, "I started thinking about the style of this new record. I wanted to create a unique aesthetic, but nothing seemed to spark my interest. Then, I had an epiphany - why not blend elements from all our previous albums? I hadn't written riffs with tremolo picking and thrash beats since 'Erosion Of Sanity' in 1993! So, I decided to revisit that style and combine it with dissonant riffs. The result? Something truly fresh and distinct, yet instantly recognizable as GORGUTS."
As for the recording process, Luc shared some details. "We're aiming to hit the studio around March. The music is already done, and it's taken me a while to find the perfect concept. I enjoy creating concept albums, so finding the right topic was crucial. Just before our recent tour, I stumbled upon a few intriguing ideas, and I've been inspired ever since. I can't wait to share this new material with our fans!"
GORGUTS' musical journey has been nothing short of remarkable. From their early days as pioneers of death metal's first wave to their influential releases like 'Considered Dead' (1991) and 'Erosion Of Sanity' (1993), they've left an indelible mark on the genre. After various lineup changes and periods of hibernation, GORGUTS has consistently pushed the boundaries of death metal, inspiring a new generation of technical death metal bands in their native Quebec.
And this is the part most people miss... GORGUTS' legacy extends beyond their music. They've influenced and inspired countless bands, including CRYPTOPSY, NEURAXIS, and BEYOND CREATION, who have carried the torch of technical death metal forward. After a decade of silence, Lemay returned with 'Colored Sands' (2013), featuring an all-star lineup, and later released the thought-provoking 'Pleiades Dust' EP (2016), conceptually based on the medieval 'House Of Wisdom' in Baghdad.
Now, after another period of darkness, GORGUTS is back with a vengeance. Their recent North American tour as the support act for DEATH TO ALL, a tribute to the late Chuck Schuldiner and his iconic band DEATH, has reignited their flame.
GORGUTS' current lineup includes Luc Lemay on rhythm guitar and vocals, Kevin Hufnagel on lead guitar, Colin Marston on bass, and Michel Bélanger on drums.
