CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — For over a hundred years, the Chattanooga Choo Choo has been a centerpiece of the South Side Historic District in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Now, this renowned landmark is available for purchase.
Originally built as a train terminal in 1909, this facility has evolved into a vibrant commercial space, and it has recently been listed for sale by the Berkley Capital Advisors Group.
Historically, Chattanooga was a critical junction for railway travel in the United States, boasting nearly 50 trains passing through daily at the height of its operation.
Currently, North Pond Partners from Chicago owns the building and rents out sections to various small businesses, including Gate 11 Distillery, which is co-owned by Wanda Lee. She expresses her hope that the new owners will be locals, believing they would have a deeper appreciation for the building's rich history.
Wanda reflects, "This location attracted visitors even back in the 1970s when it featured a beautiful garden restaurant, making it a vital part of Chattanooga's social landscape."
While we attempted to get a statement from North Pond Partners regarding the potential sale, they opted not to comment.
In 1973, the Choo Choo reopened its doors to the public, transforming into a unique entertainment and hotel complex. Today, it houses several bars and restaurants, along with a Michelin-recognized hotel, underscoring its ongoing evolution as a community hub.
