Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters has secured a substantial investment of ₹7,000 crore (C$1 billion) from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments). This investment includes a 8.2% stake acquisition worth ₹4,000 crore (C$588 million) and a joint venture commitment of up to ₹3,000 crore (C$441 million). The joint venture will develop hyperscale data centre campuses across India, with CtrlS holding 52% equity ownership and CPP Investments taking 48%.
This strategic partnership is seen as a significant boost for CtrlS, signaling confidence in its market leadership, operational excellence, and long-term growth plans. The investment aims to accelerate the development of next-generation data centre infrastructure to meet the rising demand from hyperscalers, cloud service providers, and enterprises. CtrlS's founder and CEO, Sridhar Pinnapureddy, emphasizes the importance of this partnership in establishing the benchmark for AI-ready infrastructure in one of the world's most significant digital markets.
India's status as a fast-growing digital market makes it a crucial pillar in CPP Investments' global data centre strategy. With over ₹1,850 billion (C$27 billion) in net assets in India as of March 31, 2026, CPP Investments has a strong local presence and a diversified portfolio of data centre assets and joint ventures across major international hubs, including Asia Pacific. This investment builds on their previous investments in India, dating back to 2009.
CtrlS Datacenters, founded in 2007, operates 19 data centres across nine key markets in India, with a total capacity of over 370 MW and 4.4 GW of projects in various stages of execution. This investment will further solidify CtrlS's position as a leading data centre company in India, contributing to the country's growing digital infrastructure sector.
The timing of this investment is particularly interesting, as it comes at a time when the demand for data centre infrastructure is soaring. With the rise of AI and cloud computing, data centres are becoming increasingly crucial for businesses and organizations worldwide. This investment by CPP Investments in CtrlS Datacenters highlights the growing importance of data centre infrastructure in the global digital economy and the strategic moves of major investors to capitalize on this trend.
